Thailand Highlights Soft Power and Sustainability at WTM 2024
LONDON, 7 November 2024 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is showcasing Thailand’s cultural and sustainable tourism at World Travel Market (WTM) 2024, running from 5-7 November at ExCeL London. Marking its 43rd appearance at the event, TAT presents the theme “Ignite Thailand: Soft Power and Sustainability” through a spacious 400-square-metre Thailand Stand, facilitating connections between buyers and sellers.
Continuing the tradition of royal support, Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana visited the Thailand Stand, participating in the “Ignite Thailand’s Charm” activity, where she dressed a teddy bear in traditional Thai textiles, highlighting the beauty of Thailand’s local fabrics.
The Thailand Stand features intricate reed mats, crafts, and colorful handwoven fabrics inspired by the country’s unique textile traditions. The display also celebrates six provinces—Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Phrae, Sukhothai, Sakon Nakhon, and Loei—known for their natural dyeing techniques.
Visitors to the stand can explore “Thai Craft Destination” travel routes that focus on eco-friendly luxury and wellness experiences. TAT’s partners, including hotels and tour operators, provide insights, and guests can enjoy a hands-on experience crafting souvenirs like brooches and charms from traditional Thai fabrics.
TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool emphasized WTM’s importance for global tourism engagement, saying, “We’re thrilled to share Thailand’s dedication to sustainability, culture, and our unique appeal with travel industry professionals worldwide.”
This year, TAT brings 42 Thai businesses to the Thailand Stand, including 32 hotels and resorts from hotspots like Bangkok, Phuket, and Krabi, along with 10 destination management companies. Notably, four of these sellers are Thailand Tourism Awards winners, 23 are STAR-certified, and two are CF-Hotels, underscoring Thailand’s commitment to sustainable tourism.
Esteemed partners like Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Thailand Privilege Card, and the Sports Authority of Thailand also showcase the spirit of collaboration.
