Vacheron Constantin Fuses Thai Rattan Craftsmanship with Swiss Watchmaking in New Boutique Installation

Vacheron Constantin

Vacheron Constantin, in collaboration with Enter Projects Asia, presents “PROJECT RATTAN – FROM GEOMETRY TO ARTISTRY” at the Siam Paragon boutique in Bangkok. Celebrating the fusion of Thai rattan weaving with the elegance of Swiss watchmaking, this unique installation is inspired by the Maison’s annual theme, “From Geometry to Artistry.”

Thai rattan artisans contributed intricate sculptures that adorn the boutique’s ceiling and window displays, capturing the essence of local craftsmanship through geometric patterns in natural materials. True to the Maison’s ethos, “Do better if possible, and that is always possible,” this exhibit exemplifies a creative blend of art and innovation.

Rattan Artistry

Rattan, a versatile material native to Thai forests, has long been used for household goods and furniture. In this installation, the natural weave represents concepts of “Transitions” and “Connections,” honoring artisans whose skills have been passed down for five generations. Selected strands, treated with natural dyes, are crafted into dynamic forms that contrast beautifully with the boutique’s modern decor.

Inspired by guilloché—a precise engraving technique in watchmaking—each piece mirrors the artistry of Vacheron Constantin’s design philosophy. The installation invites viewers to explore craftsmanship that celebrates both heritage and precision, while showcasing three dials with intricate guilloché patterns by the Maison’s Master Guillocheur.

Annual Theme: Geometry as Art

Vacheron Constantin’s commitment to transforming functionality into aesthetic beauty is the core of its annual theme. Through meticulous sketching and design, artisans, dial-makers, and designers shape each watch into a blend of art and mechanics.

This process goes beyond practical form, bringing together the skills of multiple craftsmen to create timepieces as artistic as they are functional. For Vacheron Constantin, the intricate geometry behind watch movements becomes a canvas for artistry, transforming each watch into a symbol of creative craftsmanship.
