True Corporation Strengthens Emergency Response with Cell Broadcast System in Phuket
True Corporation Plc., a leading telecom-tech company in Thailand, collaborated with key agencies to conduct a live test of its “LIVE – Cell Broadcast Service” (CBS) in Phuket on November 19, 2024.
The test was conducted alongside the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE), Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), and Phuket Province. This initiative is designed to elevate safety measures in one of Thailand’s most visited destinations.
True Corporation acted as the Cell Broadcast Center (CBC), coordinating system integration with the DDPM, the Cell Broadcast Entity (CBE), to deliver a real-time network simulation. The CBS is set to officially launch soon, offering swift and precise emergency alerts to the public.
Phuket as a Testing Ground
Phuket, a globally recognized tourist destination, plays a crucial role in Thailand’s economy. In 2023, the island welcomed 11.3 million tourists, including 8.4 million international visitors, generating 388 billion baht in revenue. With its reputation as “The Best Island Destination” and its susceptibility to natural disasters, Phuket was strategically chosen for the CBS test.
Key Features and Collaborative Approach
Chakkrit Urairat, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at True Corporation, highlighted the significance of the simulation, stating:
“True Corporation is proud to partner with NBTC, DE, and DDPM for this CBS simulation in Phuket. This initiative strengthens Thailand’s emergency response capabilities for locals and tourists alike.”
The CBS delivers alerts directly to all mobile devices in affected areas without requiring prior registration. It supports multiple languages, pop-up notifications, audio alerts, and text-to-speech for visually impaired users, ensuring inclusivity.
True has also set up the Business and Network Intelligence Center (BNIC) to manage the system 24/7, further enhancing its emergency response framework.
Advancing Safety Standards
The CBS offers several advantages:
- Speed: Immediate delivery of alerts during emergencies.
- Accuracy: Targeted notifications for specific areas.
- Inclusivity: Messages reach all devices within risk zones, requiring no registration.
- Global Standards: Internationally recognized technology.
- Multi-language Support: Alerts provided in multiple languages simultaneously.
True Corporation’s commitment to safety aligns with Thailand’s efforts to provide a secure and welcoming environment for all.
