The Mills Fabrica Champions Sustainable Innovation in Southeast Asia

The Mills Fabrica Champions

Driving sustainability in textiles, agrifood, and techstyle, Nunes spearheads impactful change for a greener future.

The Mills Fabrica, an innovation hub in Hong Kong, is leading sustainability efforts across the textile, apparel, and agrifood industries. These sectors contribute up to 44% of global greenhouse gas emissions, highlighting the critical need for change. Heading their mission in Asia is Cintia Nunes, General Manager, who is reshaping these industries with her focus on environmental and social impact.

Cintia Nunes, a University College London economics graduate, transitioned from corporate roles at Procter & Gamble to purpose-driven ventures. Inspired by Muhammad Yunus’ vision for business as a tool for social good, she now focuses on supporting startups that balance profitability with sustainability.

Originating from the Nan Fung Group’s textile legacy, The Mills Fabrica provides a comprehensive ecosystem for entrepreneurs. Their initiatives include a venture capital fund, incubation programs, Fabrica X (an impact retail store), and resources like labs and co-working spaces in Hong Kong and London.

The organization supports startups through tailored frameworks, guiding them from idea development to market-ready products and measurable environmental impact. Entrepreneurs refine ideas through workshops and events, receive feedback during the incubation phase, and scale innovations through retail opportunities.

One standout initiative, the Techstyle For Social Good competition, partners with organizations like Thai Union Group PCL to address pressing environmental issues. In Thailand, efforts align with the country’s bio-circular green economic model, focusing on bio-based materials, waste reduction, and resource efficiency.

Thailand’s textile and agricultural sectors position it as a leader in green innovation. The Mills Fabrica collaborates with institutions like Chulalongkorn University and the National University of Singapore to foster young innovators. Over five years, they’ve received 600+ competition applications globally, awarding over USD 250K in prizes.

Innovators like Baytech-HMS and Fibe exemplify sustainability breakthroughs. HMS technology reduces CO2 emissions and water use in denim production, while Fibe transforms potato waste into textiles with significant resource savings. These solutions represent The Mills Fabrica’s commitment to measurable environmental outcomes.

By connecting startups, corporations, and academia, The Mills Fabrica accelerates innovation that drives meaningful environmental and social change, positioning Thailand as a hub for sustainable solutions in Southeast Asia.
