Thailand’s Halal Industry

Global leaders gather in Bangkok to explore how AI and digital technology are reshaping the Halal market.

The 11th Thailand Halal Assembly 2024 (THA2024) took place at the Al Meroz Hotel in Bangkok from 19–20 December, showcasing Thailand’s commitment to advancing its Halal industry through innovation. Over 985 in-person participants from 40 countries and 7,613 virtual attendees from 34 countries joined the event, presided over by Akanat Promphan, Thailand’s Minister of Industry.

THA2024 focused on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Actual Implementation (AI) to enhance Halal product credibility and ensure global recognition. This approach aligns with Thailand’s ambition to lead in Halal innovation.

Assoc Prof Dr Winai Dahlan, Director of the Halal Science Center at Chulalongkorn University and THA2024 Chairman, highlighted the dual AI strategy:

  • Actual Implementation: Involves Halal standardisation, the HAL-Q system, forensic laboratories, and innovations driven by human expertise to meet Islamic standards.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Utilises big data to optimise production, cut costs, and bolster trust in Halal-certified goods.

The assembly featured two key conferences that highlighted advancements in science, technology, and business:

  1. The 11th International Halal Science and Technology Conference (IHSATEC)
  2. The 17th Halal Science, Industry, and Business Conference (HASIB)

Other major attractions included:

  • Halal SMEs Zone: Showcased 18 innovative products developed with the Halal Science Center to support new entrepreneurs.
  • Digital Exhibition: Presented manual Halal procedures enhanced by AI to strengthen trust and certification reliability.
