Thailand Sets Record with Over 35 Million Tourists in 2024, Eyes Bigger Goals for 2025
Tourism boom drives plans for an even more vibrant year of travel and sports ahead.
Thailand welcomed over 35 million international tourists in 2024, surpassing expectations and generating more than 1.8 trillion Baht in revenue. This milestone positions the country for further growth as it prepares for the ‘Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025,’ with plans to attract 36–39 million visitors and generate up to 2.23 trillion Baht in tourism revenue.
Key Milestones Achieved in 2024
Thailand’s tourism success in 2024 resulted from strategic policies and collaborative efforts. Between January 1 and December 27, over 35 million international visitors arrived. Visa exemptions for 93 countries, extended stays up to 60 days, and the removal of TM.6 forms at 16 key border points made traveling easier.
Airlines played a significant role by reinstating and launching routes, increasing airline seat capacity by 26% compared to 2023. During December’s peak season, over 311 extra flights added 70,000 seats to meet demand.
Major events such as the Amazing Thailand Countdown 2024 and the Maha Songkran World Water Festival boosted the nation’s appeal. Attractions tied to popular TV shows, movies, and music videos also drew international attention, bringing in tourists from nearby and distant markets.
Enhanced Accessibility for Travelers
Expanded flight routes connected Thailand to more global cities during the high season:
- Asia-Pacific Region: New flights connected Bangkok and other cities to destinations in China, Vietnam, India, and Oceania.
- Europe and North America: Airlines like British Airways, Edelweiss, and Air Canada offered more routes to Bangkok and Phuket.
- Middle East: Saudia Airlines added flights between Riyadh, Jeddah, and Phuket.
These developments made Thailand more accessible, attracting both first-time and repeat visitors.
Preparing for 2025: Bigger and Better
Looking to 2025, Thailand plans to host major cultural and sporting events, improve travel convenience, and introduce exclusive offers for tourists. Collaborations with global influencers will enhance the country’s visibility, further solidifying its reputation as a top destination for travelers worldwide.
