Thailand Enhances Railway System Through Strategic Partnership
The Ministry of Transport in Thailand is focused on enhancing the national railway system to stimulate economic development and improve citizens’ quality of life. To achieve this, the Rail and Transit Technology Development Institute (RTRDI) has formed a partnership with Nplus S.r.l., an Italian firm specialising in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) technology.
This collaboration brings advanced technology for inspecting, analysing, and maintaining the railway infrastructure in Thailand. The initiative aims to boost efficiency, improve safety, and lower accident risks.
By utilising Nplus’s SHM expertise, Thailand seeks to upgrade its rail infrastructure to meet international standards, enhancing the country’s competitiveness. RTRDA and Nplus S.r.l. Sign MOU to Enhance Rail Technology in Thailand
Bangkok, 24 October 2027 – The Rail Technology Research and Development Agency (RTRDA) of Thailand has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Italy’s Nplus S.r.l. to collaborate on advancements in rail technology and promote sustainable growth in Thailand’s railway sector.
The signing event took place at the Sukhothai Hotel in Bangkok, attended by Dr. Chayatan Phromsorn, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chotchai Chareonngam, Chairman of the RTRDA Board, and H.E. Paolo Dionisi, Ambassador of Italy to Thailand. The MOU was signed by Dr. Julathep Kajornchaiyakul, Director of RTRDA, and Mr. Giordano Riello, President of Nplus S.r.l.
Dr. Chayatan emphasised the need for expanding and enhancing Thailand’s railway network as part of the 20-Year National Strategy. He highlighted that innovative technologies are crucial for improving operational efficiency and safety within the rail infrastructure. The partnership with Nplus, renowned for its infrastructure management expertise, is expected to propel rail technology forward in Thailand.
Dr. Julathep expressed pride in formalising the partnership with Nplus. He noted that this collaboration will merge the strengths and knowledge of both organisations to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency in the railway sector. He reaffirmed the commitment to enhancing the rail network through the adoption of advanced infrastructure management systems and best practices.
This partnership comes at a pivotal time as Thailand’s railway industry undergoes substantial transformation. Assessing and upgrading outdated infrastructure is essential for providing safe and efficient transportation.
