Thaicom Public Company Limited, a leading satellite and space technology provider in Asia, has announced that its subsidiary, IPSTAR (India) Private Limited, has entered into a satellite capacity agreement with Hughes Communications India Private Limited (HCI), a top provider of satellite broadband and managed network services. The deal focuses on satellite capacity over India, utilising Thaicom’s satellite fleet.
IPSTAR India will supply satellite capacity to Hughes in India through Thaicom’s network, allowing HCI to improve its satellite broadband, mobile backhaul, maritime, and satellite IoT services. This partnership addresses the growing demand for satellite services across India.
The agreement marks a crucial step forward in expanding satellite communications within India, enhancing capacity for broadband and related services. Thaicom remains committed to meeting the increasing need for satellite broadband, with the capacity provided by its current and next-generation satellite fleet. The company is also seeking regulatory approval under India’s new space policy.
Shivaji Chatterjee, President and Managing Director of Hughes Communications India, expressed excitement about continuing their successful collaboration. He highlighted the importance of this new capacity in boosting broadband connectivity across India. He also emphasised the significance of Thaicom’s satellite platform in advancing satellite broadband services.
Patompob (Nile) Suwansiri, CEO of Thaicom, expressed honour in partnering with Hughes, starting with the use of their THAICOM 8 satellite, which has dedicated Indian coverage. He added that Thaicom is committed to the Indian market, with plans for future investments in cutting-edge next-generation satellites. Thaicom has been providing satellite capacity to the Indian market since 1997, and with Hughes’ experience in managed services, they are confident in meeting India’s demand for broadband services.
