TCMA Promotes Waste Management Innovation Through Cement Kiln Technology

TCMA

The Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) is enhancing sustainable waste solutions with co-processing technology in cement kilns. This approach transforms waste into resources, minimising landfill reliance and cutting greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Zero Emission Concept.

During the opening of EnwastExpo 2024, Industry Minister Akanat Promphan presided over the event. TCMA Vice-Chairman Nopadol Ramyarupa stressed the importance of addressing Thailand’s waste issues across agriculture, industry, and communities. Effective waste sorting and management at the source were highlighted as essential for reducing environmental harm.

TCMA

TCMA members integrate waste into the cement production process as alternative raw materials (AR) and fuels (AF). This co-processing transforms industrial waste into valuable resources for the cement industry, driving circular economy practices and supporting sustainable growth.

Co-processing uses high temperatures, exceeding 1,450 degrees Celsius, to ensure safe, pollution-free waste disposal. This process eliminates landfill needs and significantly reduces emissions. In 2022, 23% of waste was converted into alternative fuels, resulting in a 4.7 million-ton reduction in CO2 emissions. TCMA is targeting 68% alternative fuel use by 2030.

TCMA

The cement industry plays a key role in Thailand’s economic development and waste management innovation. TCMA’s collaboration with government, industry, and communities is shaping a cleaner, more sustainable future for the nation.
