Bolt Launches “Booster Week” to Help Drivers Meet E-Hailing Requirements
Initiative Supports Compliance, Encourages Growth in Thailand’s Ride-Hailing Industry
Bolt, a global leader in shared mobility, is stepping up to support drivers in Thailand as they navigate the country’s complex e-hailing regulations. These rules, aligned with guidelines from the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), require drivers to obtain public driving licenses and register their vehicles as public hire cars under specific classifications: Type Ror Yor 17 for motorcycles and Type Ror Yor 18 for cars.
With Thailand’s ride-hailing sector growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.38%, as reported by Mordor Intelligence, the industry is a vital source of income for many families. However, obtaining the necessary licenses and registrations often proves challenging for drivers, many of whom rely on these platforms as their primary livelihood. Bolt aims to address these hurdles through practical solutions and collaborative efforts with government authorities.
“Booster Week” Offers Hands-On Assistance
To make compliance more accessible, Bolt has introduced “Booster Week,” running every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in January and extending into 2025. This initiative provides drivers with personalized support, including document preparation, one-on-one consultations, on-site assistance at the Department of Land Transport, and guidance for passing public driving license exams.
Incentives are also part of the program. Drivers who upload their public driving license by 31 January 2025 will receive a 3% commission discount, insurance coverage through Bolt’s partners, and a one-time bonus of 1,000 THB. Additionally, Bolt is offering financial assistance for registration fees to reduce the burden on drivers.
Chatchai Nedngam, a Bolt driver-partner, shared: “The process can be overwhelming, but Bolt’s ‘Booster Week’ has made it manageable. Their support and benefits gave me the confidence to complete the requirements smoothly.”
Advocating for Long-Term Industry Growth
Bolt is also calling on the government to streamline regulations, allowing drivers more time and resources to comply. The company envisions a modernized, fair system that ensures drivers can maintain sustainable incomes while fostering growth across the ride-hailing ecosystem.
“Drivers are central to Bolt’s success, and we’re committed to helping them meet legal requirements with ease,” said Nathadon Suksiritarnan, General Manager for Bolt Thailand. “Through collaboration with government authorities and ongoing driver support, we aim to build a fair and sustainable industry that benefits everyone.”
With initiatives like “Booster Week,” Bolt is not only promoting compliance but also driving innovation and contributing to Thailand’s long-term economic growth, positioning itself as a key player in shaping the future of ride-hailing.
