Thailand Partners with IIT Bombay to Boost Educational Opportunities
Thailand has taken its first step toward a significant educational collaboration with one of India’s top institutes. Thai Trade Representative Umesh Pandey announced the initiative on Facebook, revealing plans for Thai students to pursue postgraduate studies at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) starting as early as June 2025.
Pandey emphasized that this marks the beginning of a broader partnership. The long-term goal includes setting up an IIT campus in Thailand, offering Thai students access to a world-class educational institution renowned for producing global leaders in various industries.
“I’ve set the ball rolling for students of my country to study in an institution that ranks among the most competitive globally,” Pandey stated. He highlighted the institution’s rigorous selection process, with an acceptance rate of just 0.2%, making it far more selective than the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which has a 6.5% acceptance rate.
This collaboration represents an important step in enhancing Thailand’s global educational ties and providing students with opportunities to excel on an international stage.
